CNC Programming New technologies have changed the way we think, design and build. More and more custom shops are equipped with sophisticated equipment that requires skilled labor to operate and special knowledge to program. Easy with which CNC router runs and cuts the parts is just visual appearance and last step in complicated process that consists several steps to achieve this kind of perfection. |

1. Engineering First, and most time consuming step, that can not be avoided is engineering. We call it Engineering, not drafting, because we truly believe that properly and competently elaborated job is only way to minimize production time and avoid costly mistakes. As you see on the picture on the right, cabinet is drawn in 3D solids. Every single piece of it is drawn and designed the way it actually will be. All the holes, grooves, notches and any necessary machining information is incorporated in to the model. Hardware, plumbing or any other mechanical part is specked and drawn to the perfection. After this first engineering step is done, two dimensional, shop or fabrication drawings are automatically generated, laid out and dimensioned for shop use, submittals and installation. From here electronic file goes to next step called analyzing. 2. Analyzing Cabinet in this process is stripped down to those parts that are going to be cut and machined on CNC router. Face of every part is copied and all geometry is assigned to special layers that will be used to produce G-code for the machine. 3. Programming When all the parts are extracted, generated geometry is exported to DXF file, format that is universal to many of CNC programming languages and different programming software. Then file is loaded in to G-code generating program, where it is translated to Computer Numerical Coordinated language, and automatically optimized and nested.
4. Machining Machining, as it was mentioned earlier, is complicated process, that requires special skills from machine operator. There are many variables in setup process that are very critical for successful and safe machine operation.
